Re-branding from Green Valentine to Andrea Verwey Consulting and building a new website from scratch over the last six months has been a wonderfully creative process. It’s also been hard work, with lots of equally hard decisions. However, one rebrand decision was easy as pie: resuming blogging as a way to connect to my clients and professional community. I love writing, and I love sharing the conversations I’m having and hearing about how to thrive in professional life.
The blog name comes from a favourite storybook from my son’s early years: Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse, by Kevin Henkes. Much of the story takes place in Mr Slinger’s classroom, where learning is fun and the cheesy snacks are tasty. And at the back of Mr Slinger’s classroom is The Lightbulb Lab. The Lightbulb Lab is a place where students are permitted to go to express their ideas creatively whenever they have free time. Our heroine Lilly (seated, top right) goes there a lot, because she has a lot of ideas, and is sorting out a lot of stuff.
I like to think that my work as a coach, facilitator, and strategist is a corporate cousin to Mr Slinger’s Lightbulb Lab. And my hope is to offer this blog as an active, creative space where Lillys of many stripes—lawyers, executives, HR and PD folks, coaches—can explore new ideas and assumptions about what it takes to sustain a fulfilling professional life at all stages. A safe place for neurons to fire, and lights to shine.
